Topic: "This is not Furry it doesn't Belong Here" and other dilemmas

Posted under General

This topic has been locked.

Yes, yes it does. Believe it or not, we have mods and admins here, and they are not you. If we don't want something here, the speed at which we currently receive new posts is slow enough that we will remove it. This also includes comments like 'take this shit off the site'. I am going to start banning fuckers if people keep trying to backseat mod.

I would assume this is common sense, but hey, here goes:

DO: Point out duplicate images via a deletion request with a link to the original image. This is very helpful, and appreciated.

DO: Comment on images in the comments. That does not necessarily mean your comments must be flowers and roses, but also don't try to be a blatant troll. Try to make some sort of point in each post, for good or bad.

DO: Tag images/fix tags yourself if possible, instead of posting 'this tag is wrong'. If you know it's wrong, fix it. However, remember the cardinal rule here too - post what you SEE in the image, not things that have to be described from an external source. (Examples of this - if a character looks 10 but artist says it's 700 years old, keep cub tag. If character looks exactly like a unicorn but artist says its actually a turtle, you should probably tag it as a unicorn.)

DO: Use tag filters to filter content you don't like or want to see, or grow a thick enough skin you can learn to ignore it. Gore, cub, gay, straight, amputation, sonic art - there's lots of stuff you might not personally like, but we're not here to cater to a single person, or even a group of people. If you don't like it, ignore it and move on. If you are having trouble doing this, this site may not be right for you.

DO NOT: Make the majority of your comments 'oh man I want to yiff this' and then go into graphic detailed fanfiction of how you will accomplish this, or other similarly creepy comments about your masturbation habits. Post if you like it, but keep the really creepy stuff to a minimum, folks.

DO NOT: Backseat moderate. If you have a problem with the moderation policies in place, please feel free to contact us through the myriad of ways available - IRC, Forum, etc. and discuss them like reasonable people. Don't throw a tantrum if you don't get your way.

DO NOT: Make posts specifically to troll or incite people. There is a difference here between giving negative feedback on an image and outright trolling - I am putting trust in our user base that they're mature enough to know the difference. If you dislike something, feel free to note it if you must, but try to be a little classy about it.

DO NOT: Ask to be made an mod, or try to act like one in order to show how 'good' you'd be as one. It just makes you look like a dick. When and if we need new mods, we're definitely not picking from people who look like they're making a power/superiority play here. The best thing you can do, honestly, is be a helpful poster and frequent contributor of quality material, and get involved with the site through IRC or the comments/forum.

---Thank you.---

If we work together, we can make this site a pretty classy place to be, for a site all full of horrific animal-man porn and all. Leave the drama and cliche furry overreactions for other places, and keep this place nice. I put my faith in you.

Amen!

Along the same lines as "not furry" are the pointless "I don't like this kind of thing" comments: "more girls" on male/gay art (e.g. post #26627), or ippiki_ookami complaining about anything with a penis (post #21584, post #25554, post #26157, post #26196, post #26474, ...), or every variation of "I wish this artist would not waste their talent on [subject I don't like]".

There's *always* going to be art about stuff you don't like; learn to ignore it.

Or better yet, pay the artist to make what you want (if they accept commissions.) Support your artists and they'll cater to you. Act like a dribble dick complaining that they don't draw what you like and post it online for you to ogle without any kind of incentive or compensation and you're really missing the point.

Artists draw what they want to draw for who they want to draw unless they are paid to draw what someone else wants them to. It's the difference between a fun hobby and work needing compensation.

So, what kind of images ARE acceptable? Furry, of course, but what else? For example, post #56983 is just a plain old picture of sunflowers. I'm completely at a loss of how a mod allowed it. If I may speak my mind, allowing too many images that aren't related to the main purpose of this site may eventually significantly lower its quality.

It's pretty simple. You take your life into your hands, so to speak, if you want to post something off topic. If a mod happens to fancy it, congrats, you live. If not, sorry, you're banned. No tears will be shed.

We're not going to post strict definitive guidelines because the instant we do, people WILL try and skirt the edges of them at every chance. Keeping them vague and nebulous keeps people on their toes, and makes them second guess what they post. Ultimately, that leads to more on-topic posts because users who don't want to get banned won't be as likely to push their luck.

Updated by anonymous

Call me provincial, but I just don't understand it. If it's not furry (sometimes even tagged as "not_furry"), why is it approved?

Updated by anonymous

Because while this is primarily a furry site, it is not exclusively one. If we like something enough, or feel that our definition of furry includes it, then we let it slide.

Updated by anonymous

VCL is still open if you guys don't like the posting guidelines here. They might be a better fit for you 'furry only' guys... unless their 5% off topic rule has your panties in a bunch as well.

Updated by anonymous

Given how insanely few non furry images are on the site here, I still scratch my head over people who get their panties in a twist over it. People seriously seem to get offended or upset over non-furry artwork, as if it is somehow tainting or defiling this horrific repository of scat, cub, vore, guro, inflation, and all sorts of other horribleness I cannot describe that we have going here.

This also brings me to a side point - the next time I hear some idiot furry cry that furry art isn't about the porn, and that the people who like the porn are in the minority...well, we allow the users to upload basically anything furry whatsoever with next to no restrictions, and look at what the userbase has seen fit to give us. Tag cloud is a fascinating insight into the sorts of things furries, by volume, truly want, produce, and distribute.

This is pretty stupid, even though other stuff is allowed this a site geared towards porn. It's like saying the prevalance of pornography on danbooru/gelbooru is proof that anime is all about the porn.

I'm not disagreeing with the conclusion mind you, just about everyone who gets into furry does so for the porn, but this is some of the most astoundingly bad logic I've seen in ages.

This site is not and never was explicitly 'geared towards porn' - saying that it is, is your personal opinion and bias, and it is objectively wrong.

I can say it is objectively wrong, because I have been here before the site existed and had a hand in its inception, and at no point was the plan EVER for it to be a 'primarily porn site', it was always to be a general artist/resource locator and image dump/directory for ALL furry/funny images. Furthermore, if it was geared towards porn, we'd be actively removing non-pornographic images, as they would run contrary to the intent of the site, were it supposed to be a porn site. If we wanted to make it primarily porn, what purpose would allowing floods of non-pornographic material serve except to dilute the searches and return hundreds of potential results we wouldn't want?

The fact your account is a DAY old and you're already lecturing me on the intentions and goal of the site is pretty telling though of the attitude that illustrates EXACTLY what I was talking about - that yes, apparently it IS all about the hellsmut and porn for most furries - even you think it so after only a day here.

You missed his/her/its REALLY weird forum topics, that I actually went ahead and deleted. I don't understand our userbase sometimes, I think, what with your newfangled eye-phones and digital watches :(

Updated by anonymous

Heh, what can you, you got to follow the rules :/

Updated by anonymous

Since I'm a new user for about 3 days or so, I wanted to ask what the rules about uploading images are. E.g. I find some image at Bing.com, gelbooru or whatever, do I have to exclude all that copyright stuff (even if I cant find any)? I couldnt find very much here that's posted on gelbooru so I dont even know if they have some copyright rules..Is it "done" by mentioning the artist?

Edit: Oh, and the Wiki can't say how I can EDIT/add tags. Can anyone tell me?
Edit2: Found it. :)

I've been here since 07 and said I agreed with your conclusion in my first post. Further, I was saying that this is a site that is geared towards porn, not that porn is the site's sole intent. any imageboard set up using the danbooru model (or 2chan model for that matter) that allows adult material is going to wind up being mainly that regardless of furry/anime/whatever them. Something like FA would probably be a better compass as to what the community as a whole is interested in.

Anyway, you seem to have not liked my posting very much so I'll fuck right back off to lurkerville and let you do your thing. cheers mate

Oh hey look ban evasion by the weird freaky guy. YOU WIN A PRIZE.

Updated by anonymous

I wouldn't say this site is geared towards porn because of the actors but rather because of the audience. Yeah it's centered around porn because that's the way we (the users) made it. And are any of us complaining besides WeirdFreakyGuy? I would say not, it's actually very simple, if you don't want to see gore for example simply type -gore and there you go everybody happy but please don't bitch about there being gore or whatever you don't like on a huge archival site. If you havnt noticed, this is kinda a porn site. So no shit is it going to have porn.

People need to be reminded that no one is forcing them to be here, if they don't like it, leave but don't make us have to hear you complain about how this post is gay or how this post isn't gay. For example, this one person filled a page with his/her preaching how gay is immoral or whatever and all I thought was "if you hate it so much then why are you even wasting your time looking at it?" I will never know.

Hehe. Well, losing ones password or some other account glitch happens all the time. But, as admin of a few other places/sites myself, I can't even begin to tell tales of banned users coming back under new names for lack of time and space to tell the tales. Fortunately, they seldom last long before you figure out who they were. Welcome back, I guess :P

Back to the topic of this thread: a photo of a stallion was posted the site with it's genitals colored a nice rainbow gamut. To showcase that it was a 4chan crack at gay/homosexual folks, I posted two photos of the same horse sans any edits.

Immediately, the type of user that causes the most "Dhrama" on boards related to furry (pr0n or not) started in with the "We don't want any bestiality here!" backseat moderation.

Now, while I think this user was a bit trollish in this case as the photo had no humans in it at all and thus did not in any way exhibit any traces of "bestiality", the photos should have been deleted at some point because they were not "furry" in that they were not retouched or manipulated (as in, actual works of art). Thus, they "were not furry".

Photos of furry art (sculptures, fursuits, 'shopped foxies and the like) are one thing, but simple photos of sex, sexual arousal and sex organs (human or otherwise) probably don't belong.

Send me a PM if you want to know more or to discuss making an image board for reference pics (no bestiality, just animals being, well, animals).

That doesn't seem very fair. What if I think something is acceptable, and you don't? How am I supposed to know whether I can post it or not. Now I'm afraid to ever post anything at all for fear of being banned.

You could always have a big cry about it on your livejournal and tell everyone the admins eat babies or whatever is in vogue this week, I guess. I think that's the standard operating procedure in these cases.

If I may go out on a limb here - and I may - you might actually be some rainman-esque manner of mentally retarded if you're actually afraid, as you admit, to post ANY image at all because of this rule. Let us break this down - it would seem then that you're somehow simultaneously capable of posting an image, while being completely unaware of what it contains, the context of the image.

It is like, having a folder of furry images, and a folder of photographs of your own bowel movements, and then seizing up when it comes time to post from one or the other because you honestly can't tell which would get you banned and which is ok in the context of the site.

Userbase, you are failing me. :/

General rules say:
Don't post RL porn, and also don't post RL images depicting bestiality, CP, or other illegal material. In fact, don't post RL images at all unless there's a compelling reason for it.

I just thought I'd throw in my two cents.
It seems to me that people whom view pictures tagged with "not_furry" and such, could benefit from such tags by utilizing the Blacklist. So instead of seeing complaints on how it is not furry, they can simply blacklist it, and be on their merry way, instead of clogging up commenting areas with their "tats not fureh" garbage.

It depends on many factors:

  • Mod who got it first
  • Funnyness (you know, if it's funny or not)
  • Coolness
  • It was not a RL picture
  • Position of the moon
  • Relative diameter of the absolute radius of a pie

A flash of Gohan and Trunks fucking is not relevant to our wsite.

"irrelevant to site" does not mean "not furry" it means that we don't feel that it is of interest to our users.

"not furry" is not a reason to flag something for deletion. we allow "not furry" pictures. However the difference between "not furry" and "irrelevant" is left to moderator discression.
